A string of criminal charges was slapped against a Chinese-Filipino trader, tagged in smuggling of P35 million worth of black corals and other endangered marine species.  Malacañang urged on the public to boycott jewelry and ornamentals made of the so-called black corals.

Black coral is an organism that grows in deep waters, attaching itself to a rock and grows like a plant, and is favored for use in post harvest aspects.  Companies who have been set up to harvest and process black coral should discontinue to seek supplies.
